ENGLISH VERSION
Which payment methods are accepted at the LRT-2 Fast Lane turnstiles?

The new LRT-2 Fast Lane turnstiles accept the following payment methods:

A. Contactless Visa or Mastercard

  • - Physical credit, debit, or prepaid cards
  • - Payment-enabled smartphones or wearables (smartwatches)
  • GCash Cards and GCash Tap to Pay are NOT enabled for LRT payments at this time.

B. GCash Commute QR

  • (See GCash Commute QR FAQs for instructions)
How can I use my card in LRT-2?

Simply tap your contactless Visa or Mastercard credit, debit, prepaid card, or your NFC-enabled mobile device against the contactless logo at the turnstile. Once the light indicator at the top of the gate turns green, push the turnstile to enter or exit.

Please remember to use the same card or device at both your entry and exit stations to ensure accurate fare calculation.

I cannot use the Mastercard or Visa cards at the gate. What should I do?

Look for the wave or contactless symbol on your physical card. If your card has an older chip and fails to be read at the gate, please contact your bank to request a contactless, EMV-compliant card.

If your Visa or Mastercard card is issued by GCash, it is currently not enabled for LRT payments. Please contact GCash for updates.

The screen displayed “Expired Card” when I tapped my credit card/debit card/prepaid card. What should I do?

Please ensure you are tapping an active card. If your card is expired, blocked, or has not yet been activated, please contact your issuing bank for assistance.

The screen displayed “Not Supported Card” when I tapped my credit card/debit card/prepaid card. What should I do?

Check if your physical card or NFC payment-enabled mobile device/wearable has a Mastercard or Visa logo.

For GCash Mastercard or Visa Card, it is currently not enabled for LRT payments. Please contact GCash for updates.

Can more than one person ride by tapping the same card more than once?

No. You cannot tap a single physical card multiple times on turnstiles or readers to pay for multiple people in the same group. The transit system uses each tap to track individual journeys and calculate fares, so every passenger is required to have their own card.

Will I be charged multiple times when I ride the train more than once in one day?

No. When you tap your card at LRT-2, Mastercard or Visa will perform a temporary verification, but your fare will not be deducted immediately. Instead of charging you for every individual ride, we track all your trips throughout the day and consolidate them into a single charge at the end of the day.

I only saw one charge for all my trips in one day. Where can I see the breakdown of the fares that were charged to me?

For the breakdown of your fares, you can visit the Passenger Assistance Office at any station and speak with the LRTA personnel.

Alternatively, you may email LRT_helpdesk@rcbcbankard.com. To help us investigate quickly, please include the details of your trips (e.g., card used, journey date, entry and exit stations). We will get back to you within 3 banking days.

The screen displayed “Blacklisted Card” when I tapped my credit card/debit card/prepaid card. What should I do?

Your card was temporarily suspended because the payment for your previous ride was declined by your bank.

Please contact your bank to ensure your card is active and has a sufficient balance. Once your card is already active, you can try tapping again after 1 hour. Please note that your next successful tap will include the outstanding fare from your previous unpaid ride.

I erroneously tapped out using a different card or device. What will happen?

Important: You must use the exact same card or device to tap in and tap out. If you switch cards, both cards will be charged the maximum fare.

If you were mistakenly charged, please email LRT_helpdesk@rcbcbankard.com to request a fare correction.

My card was accepted by the gate but the turnstile did not open. What should I do?

If your card fails to be read at the turnstile, please report it to the station staff to verify if your tap was recorded in the system.

  1. If your tap was successfully recorded:
    • At Entry or Exit: Staff will assist you through the service gate.
    • Note: If this happened at entry, you can proceed to travel and tap out as usual at your destination.
  2. If your tap was NOT recorded:

You may try tapping your card a second time. If it still fails:

    • At Entry: Report to the staff, and you are encouraged to use the standard gate instead.
    • At Exit: Approach the staff so they can let you out through the service gate. Show the card that you used to enter so the station staff can record your exit. Your card will be charged the maximum fare but we will post an adjustment within 3 banking days.

If you do not see the adjustment within 3 banking days, please send an email to LRT_helpdesk@rcbcbankard.com for assistance.

There was an additional Php 15.00 charged to my fare. What is this?

You were charged a ₱15.00 overstaying fee. This charge is automatically applied if you remain inside the train network for more than 120 minutes before tapping out at your exit station.

Why is the transaction description reflected on my bank app or Statement of Account different?

Your bank may have updated or added details to the original transaction description processed by Mastercard or Visa, making it look different on your statement.

I tapped my card to enter the station. While inside the train/station, the Train Driver or station personnel announced a train breakdown or emergency. Will I still be charged?

No. Due to a train breakdown or emergency, your card will not be charged.

If you were charged a maximum fare because you were unable to tap out, please expect an adjustment within 3 business days.

If the charge is not reversed after 3 business days, please report it to the Passenger Assistance Office at any station or email us at LRT_helpdesk@rcbcbankard.com

I lost my Visa or Mastercard contactless credit, debit, prepaid card, or an NFC payment-enabled mobile device or wearable before I exited the station. How can I exit?

Immediately report your card as lost to your bank so they can block it.

Please report the issue to the station staff and they will assist you through the service gate. If you can remember your card number, please provide it to the station staff so they can verify your entry and record your exit. Your card will be charged the maximum fare but expect an adjustment within 3 banking days.

If you cannot provide your card number to the station staff, we will not be able to adjust your fare.

I tapped my card but failed to enter immediately. When I tapped my card again, the screen displayed “Card Already Accepted”. What should I do?

Double-tapping the same card at the turnstile in less than 5 minutes is not allowed.

If you failed to enter/exit after tapping in/out, approach the station staff to verify if your tap in/out was recorded.

  1. If your tap was successfully recorded:
    • At Entry or Exit: Staff will assist you through the service gate.
    • Note: If this happened at entry, you can proceed to travel and tap out as usual at your destination.
  2. If your tap was NOT recorded:

You may try tapping your card a third time after 5 minutes.

The exit gate at my destination was wide open. Can I just pass through without tapping out?

You should not exit without tapping out because you will be charged the maximum fare.

If the exit gate is wide open, report it to the station staff and present the card that you used to enter. The station staff will record your card and exit station and let you through the service gate. As your exit is manually recorded, you will be charged the maximum fare but expect an adjustment on your account within 3 banking days.

A. Contactless Visa or Mastercard

  • - Physical credit, debit, or prepaid cards
  • - Payment-enabled smartphones o wearables (smartwatches)
  • Paalala: Hindi pa enabled ang GCash Cards at GCash Tap to Pay sa ngayon.

B. GCash Commute QR

Mahalaga: Dapat parehong card o device ang iyong gagamitin sa pang-tap in at tap out.

GCash commute qr FAQS
What is GCash Commute?

GCash Commute is a feature in the GCash app that lets you pay for public transportation directly using your phone. Instead of buying single-journey tickets or reloading physical cards, you can skip the lines to save time, and go directly to dedicated fast lanes by generating a Commute QR code.

How to access Commute QR?

There are 3 ways to open Commute QR in the GCash app:

Option A — From the Home Screen (Fastest)

  1. On the GCash home screen, tap the Commute icon
  2. Your Commute QR will load automatically

Option B — Via "View All"

  1. Tap View All on the GCash home screen
  2. Go through the Pay section
  3. Select Commute

Option C — Via the Navigation Bar

  1. Tap QR at the bottom navigation bar
  2. Select Generate QR → Commute

First-time users: You will be prompted to share consent and accept the Terms & Conditions before your QR is generated. Tap the checkboxes and press Agree to proceed.

Is this available for all GCash users?

Yes, the GCash Commute QR is available for all Fully Verified GCash users on both iOS and Android devices

Can I use Commute QR for both LRT-2 and MRT-3 trips?

Yes, the GCash Commute QR technology works on both lines. However, note that the generated Commute QR is unique per trip, and the minimum balance hold differs: ₱16.50 for LRT-2 and ₱14.00 for MRT-3 (based on the current promo fare matrix).

Is there an extra fee for using GCash Commute QR?

No. There is no added fee. The commuter pays only the standard LRT-2 fare.

Can I share my Commute QR with a companion?

No. Each QR is unique, one-time-use per trip, and tied to your account. Your companions must use their own GCash account and generate his own Commute QR.

What happens if I don't scan out at the exit turnstile?

You will be charged the maximum fare (₱16.50 for LRT-2). Always scan out to get the correct fare and refund of any excess.

Do I need data or an internet connection to access the Commute QR?

Wifi/ data is needed to access the GCash app and Commute QR. However, you will only need this when you generate your Commute QR. Once you’ve scanned your QR on the turnstile to enter, you may download your exit Commute QR, then you may already turn off your internet / data connection.

To exit, access the downloaded Commute QR from your gallery and scan it on the turnstile. Note that this downloaded QR is only for one-time-use

When should I generate my Commute QR?

You should generate your GCash Commute QR while in line before your turn to scan on the turnstile. The QR code will continuously refresh so make sure to keep your GCash app open until it is your turn.

Why can’t I use NFC/ EMV in LRT-2 (unlike in MRT-3)?

This is a phased rollout where the GCash Commute QR is the first cashless mode of payment available in the LRT-2. GCash is currently developing other convenient modes of payment for commuters, which will be announced as soon as available.

Can I use a saved screenshot of my Commute QR for all my rides? Do I have to login and generate a new QR every ride?

Remember that a new Commute QR must be generated for every trip. Once a QR code has been used, it can no longer be used for future rides. To avoid any issues, make sure to generate a fresh QR code before heading to the station for your next journey.

After entering the station, you can save your Commute QR for one-time offline use – Simply tap “Download for Later” to save a copy of your QR code, which you can scan upon exiting at your destination station

What LRT-2 stations accept direct GCash payment?

All LRT-2 stations now accept GCash for direct payment via Commute QR. Each station has at least one dedicated Fast Lane gate / turnstile per direction: one for southbound and another one for northbound.

There is an error when I am paying using my Commute QR.

Common reasons for the issue:

  • Insufficient balance – You need at least PHP 16.50 to proceed
  • Expired QR code – A new QR code is needed for each trip
  • Low screen brightness – Increase brightness so the QR can be scanned properly
  • Use the correct QR - Only use the Commute QR Code. Personal QR Codes for Send Money or Scan to Pay won’t work
What do I do if my QR code expires?

The GCash Commute QR will auto refresh every 8 seconds. Make sure to keep the Commute QR screen open until it is your turn to scan on the turnstile so that it is the most updated QR. Do not worry, the refreshed QR will not double-charge your ride.

I was charged multiple times, what should I do?

Visit the GCash Help Center and submit a ticket. The team will assist you.

I didn’t scan my QR code when exiting—why was I charged the full amount?

If you were not able to scan when exiting, you will be charged the maximum fare (Php 16.50). Please ensure to scan when exiting the station to process the return of your excess charge.

Are concession fares available (Students, Seniors, PWD)?

Given the current 50% off DOTr subsidy for all rides promo, any additional concessions are paused.
